Welcome!

My name is Javier Hernandez and I am researcher focused on the development of emotionally intelligent tools to further the understanding of humans while fostering greater health and quality of life. In particular, I have made several contributions in the context of daily life stress and the use of technology to improve its measurement, understanding, and management.

I am currently a Principal Researcher at the Human Understanding and Empathy group of Microsoft Research where we explore novel ways to bring emotional intelligence to technology, Research Affiliate at the Affective Computing group at the MIT Media Lab where I founded and directed the Emotion Navigation and Onsite Stress Measurement special interest groups, and Founder and CEO of Global Vitals LLC where we create unique tools to democratize physiological sensing.
